The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from the Kampala business district have endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to run as the sole candidate for the 2026 general elections.
These were party leaders drawn from all party structures and supporters from formal and informal sectors like Bodaboda associations, taxi operators, ghetto youths, market traders, salonists among others.
All leaders and mobilizers in unison appealed to President Museveni to come back in 2026 such that he can finish the unfinished business and lead the party from 2026 and beyond.
While presiding over the ceremony at Bat Valley primary school to popularize the ‘Jajja Tova Ku Main’ campaigns aimed at returning President Museveni as the party’s sole flag bearer for the 2026 presidential elections, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo (head of the Office of the National Chairman, Kyambogo) waged a war against government officials who swindle government money meant to revive Ugandans from poverty.
She said this has tarnished the party and president’s image in the city yet money is always sent but does not reach its beneficiaries.
“We need to help ourselves, let’s come out and demand who eats Kampala money. We shall fear no one. Government releases money for projects like Parish Development Model but who has got that money? I have waged war on those who have always been eating that money without fear.” She said.
“I don’t want people to come up and say the Office of National Chairman is fighting them. But I want those who receive this money to come out and show us whom they gave the money, how much.”
She noted that people in Kampala had reaped nothing from government operations because those who receive the money don’t take it to the lower people.
“If people in Kampala have been receiving this money (PDM, Myooga) we would have been seeing a change in them but we are still seeing poor people languishing in poverty yet every financial year money for these projects in Kampala is released. It’s now my call to every Ugandan especially NRM cadres to come and fight these goons in offices who have tarnished NRM’s name to look like a den of thieves.”
Chief Muzukulu also took time and made a sample test by asking whether any of the groups around have benefited from such government programs. Almost all of them said they were yet to receive such money for Emyooga, PDM etc yet all the funds for Kampala were released in the last financial years.
“I have always heard that people in Kampala make SACCOs but if I may ask how many SACCOs have received this money? That is why the opposition is fighting us. People look at us as thieves yet those who eat this money are in those offices. It is now our war to fight these thieves and clean the name of NRM.”
“Why is Kampala crying? Why can’t the issues of Kampala be looked into? We heard they put Shs 10 billion in emyooga for Kampala, where is that Shs 10bn? If the 10bn was really injected in Kampala would all these people still be poor? Namyalo wondered.
She added that if their campaign of Toova Ku main is to succeed the name of NRM in Kampala must first be cleansed by removing thieves in the management of project Funds.
“I want us to support the Toova Ku Main campaign as we fight because Mzee will not lead alone. Of course, NRM has worked on all roads but people need to work. So we need to fight this war, this is a big click let’s be strong.”
Hajjat Namyalo encouraged the youth and leaders to start demanding accountability of funds injected into government programmes like Emyooga, the Parish Development Model, especially in Kampala where the money ends up in the pockets of a few technocrats leaving the bazzukulu poor.
“It’s their right to demand for accountability and to know where their money is; we need to know where the money is or if someone stole it we also know him or her. In Kampala, we are hated but this is because of the thieves in government. I know you will look for me, you kill me but there is no one who signed a life sentence with God. I don’t fear you thieves” She added.
She also blamed Kampala Capital city authority for failing to help the people of Kampala to benefit from government programmes and projects yet most of the taxes are collected from Kampala.
“We need to know why Kampala hates NRM yet the money released for KCCA is huge. We want KCCA to tell us where the money collected in taxes goes. Why can’t it benefit Kampala people“
Namyalo requested groups that submitted their requests to get government funds but were being tossed around for years to resubmit their proposals through her office for a follow to find out who ate their money since funds are always released in every financial year.
Minister for Kampala Hon Hajjat Minsa Kabanda assured NRM members that she is going to do everything possible to bring Kampala back to NRM and support president Museveni come 2026.
She added that people must demand service delivery she however asked leaders in NRM to cooperate, she alluded that in the 2021 elections, NRM performed poorly and that is the reason why they started early that they teach people good things done by NRM so that they vote President Museveni and all Party members.
Museveni, 78, has ruled since 1986. In 2026, he will be 82 years old. In perhaps the clearest indication that Museveni will run again in 2026, Kabanda added that president Museveni still has the energy and vision to rule this country, which is why they are asking for him to come back as NRM presidential candidate
