UPC Asks Govt To Mitigate School Going Children Dropouts

Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has raised dust about the increasing numbers of school dropouts in the country.

At the release of Primary Leaving
Examinations last week, UNEB reported
that more girls are completing primary
education cycle while boys are
increasingly dropping out.

UPC blamed the increasing cases of
school dropout on different variations of
schools fees charged by schools which
they say is unfair to struggling parents
and students.

UPC called upon the government to establish a policy to harmonize school fees in Uganda.

The head of communications Muzeyi Faizo has revealed that school fees would create a level playing field and ensure that no student is denied access to education due to unaffordable fees.

In addition, the UPC emphasized that
the government is obliged to ensure
quality education to it’s citizen calling
for a collective effort to find out causes
of high school dropouts as well as
providing a conducive environment
environment for both learners and
teachers especially in public schools to
facilitate proper learning and teaching.

“What we have today is not access to
quality education, it’s access to schools
therefore, the government should
ensure that UPE provides quality
education services as opposed to just
providing access to schools for our
children,”he said.(parror)
