The Ismail community led by HE Aga Khan have blasted City businessman Karim Hirji for shameful and irreligious behaviour by failing to care for orphans and stealing property of the dead.
Following a petition by one of the children of the late Ziba Charm, deceased wife of Hirji to the effect that their step father connived with city lawyers to forge a will of the late Charm and subsequently converted all her properties and accounts in Uganda and London, the Aga Khan foundation has decided to review their dealings with Karim.
Not long ago, Karim Hirji offered land in Kololo to Aga Khan to build a mosque.
However, we’ve learnt that Aga Khan has directed for the history of said land be investigated before the project is implemented, as it may be part of the disputed estate of the late Charm.
In the Ismail community, caring for the sick, prisoners, orphans are key pillars.
The Aga Khan is questioning why Karim Hirji who is failing to care for his late wife’s children or settling family property disputes turn around to donate land.
“The Aga Khan foundation does not need land and in any case many other members can offer clean donations, its Charm’s orphans who need help,” said a family member.
The Aga Khan foundation has also resolved before any further dealings with Karim Hirji to call for Sebutinde report which made damning findings on Karim and study it fully. It is reported that the AG William Byarugaba and Masembe saved Karim jail through short cuts, and the matter seems back on table.
