Renowned Journalist Risdel Kasasira Laid To Rest In Emotional Farewell

Prominent journalist Risdel Kasasira was laid to rest on Sunday in his ancestral village of Itara, Rubaya-Kashari, Mbarara District. The 45-year-old, known for his professionalism and humility, passed away following a tragic road accident on January 3 along the Lyantonde-Masaka Road.

Mourners from various walks of life, including family, friends, colleagues, and government officials, gathered to honor Kasasira’s legacy. They remembered him as a dedicated journalist who upheld the principles of fairness and integrity throughout his career.

Charles Mpagi, speaking on behalf of the media fraternity, praised Kasasira’s commitment to ethical journalism. “Kasasira was a rare breed in the industry. He demonstrated professionalism and courage, even in challenging times,” he noted.

Col Chris Magezi, the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, highlighted Kasasira’s patriotism and balance in reporting. “While some journalists seek sensationalism, Kasasira stood out for his honest and accurate reporting. He consistently defended his publication even when relations with the government were strained,” he remarked.

Didas Tabaro, the Mbarara District Chairperson, reflected on his friendship with Kasasira. “I once asked him why he chose to work with the Daily Monitor, given its contentious relationship with the government. His response was simple: he was committed to professionalism,” Tabaro said.

Shallot Kasasira, the widow, delivered an emotional tribute to her late husband. “Risdel was a loving partner and father. He brought immense joy to our family. In our six years of marriage, he taught us the value of love, forgiveness, and honesty. He will be deeply missed,” she said.

Kasasira’s death has left a significant void in the media industry. Many described him as a bridge between the press and the military, a rare role he managed with tact and dedication. His legacy as a journalist committed to truth and professionalism will undoubtedly endure.
