Tears As Body Of Lt.Gen Pecos Kutesa Returns Home

The body of fallen Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa has been brought back to Uganda,from India where he passed on four days ago. The remains were accompanied by his wife Mrs Dora Kuteesa and their son.

Lt Gen Kutesa’s remains arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 1400 hours aboard Emirates Boeing Flight 777 300ER.

Lt Gen James Mugira the Managing Director National Enterprise Corporation represented the Chief of Defence Forces to receive the body. He praised the fallen comrade’s name as synonymus with the liberation struggle of this country adding that one cannot talk about the liberation struggle of this country without mentioning the name of Lt Gen Kutesa. “He sacrificed his life as a youth ,he decided to put his life on the line of fire and was ready to pay even the ultimate price. He was a very good commander who commanded very many battles peacefully including the capture of the famous Katonga battles and the capture of Kampala,” he observed. He further added that as a force and a country in general we have lost a great man.

Maj Gen Stephen Kashaka, a close friend to the deceased described him as a very courageous officer who has left a big gap in this country. His loyalty and courage pushed him to join a war where he did not know whether they will win or not and this makes him a hero.

Mrs Dora Kutesa the widow said that they have known each other since 1980. They joined the bush war together and they have been on this journey together since then.

God gave him a new lease on life when he got a liver transplant in 2009 donated by her and it is this liver which has supported him all these years. She thanked God who has kept them for a period of 41 years in marriage.

Burial will take place at his country home in Kabula County, Lyantonde district on Sunday 22 August.

Other UPDF Generals who graced the function included Lt Gen Nakibus Lakara the Managing director of Uganda Air Cargo, Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda the Joint Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Sam Kawagga 1st Division Commander, Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi the Deputy Air Force Commander, service Chiefs, friends and family.
