Go & Study: President Museveni Approves Charter For Victoria University

The President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved a Charter for Victoria University that will see the institution awarding degrees from Bachelors, Masters, Doctorates and Honorary Degrees.

The news was confirmed by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) in a letter addressed to the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof.Lawrence Muganga inviting him for official handover of the Charter.

The letter inked by NCHE Executive Director Prof.Mary J.N.Okwakol dated 16th August 2022 states that President Museveni signed the Charter for Victoria University on 31st July 2022.

”H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda signed the Charter for Victoria University on 31st July 2022. On behalf of National Council for Higher Education and on my own behalf, I congratulate Victoria University upon this achievement.

The purpose of this letter is to invite you and your team to an official handover of the Charter at a ceremony scheduled to take place on Friday 19th August 2022 at the NCHE Secretariat at 11:00am,” Prof. Okwakol’s letter to Prof. Muganga partially states.

NCHE granted Victoria University a Charter earlier this year but this could not take effect before gazettement and final approval by the President.

Victoria University has continued to revolutionize Uganda’s education sector amidst all hardships brought by COVID-19 that saw thousands of Universities globally shutting down.

The University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga told this news website that it’s the same intake that will kick off with the new education formula innovated by the University to curb unemployment in the country.

“We all agree that thousands of students have been graduating with first-class degrees but without any iota of skills but surely which employer wants your theory, they are looking for skills. Therefore, this is the secret behind Victoria University’s Competence-Based Education Formula that will be aiming at impacting students with hands-on skills, not theories and this will be based on students’ competence.”

Muganga said the formula will see students in their first year-semester two go through Career Employability Program (CEP) which is under Career Employable Hub (CEH) where they will be prepared with the soft skills that employers are looking for.

For some of our readers, soft skills, also known as common skills or core skills, are skills applicable to all professions. These include critical thinking, problem-solving, public speaking, professional writing, teamwork, digital literacy, leadership, professional attitude, work ethic, career management, and intercultural fluency… feel free to add on…

”Most of the graduates today, don’t know how to write business emails, winning application letters, CVs, memos, how to use phones at work, how to use computers, so we intend to teach them all this through CEH,” said Muganga before he hinted about something crucial; ”Did you know at Victoria University all students have laptops? Those who can’t manage to buy we assist them through our laptop loan scheme. So by the time our students graduate, they are already computer wizards and ready to scoop jobs requiring computer skills.”

Victoria University is the only higher institution of learning that offers its students the opportunity; to study anywhere, anytime, access to free textbooks and graduate with work experience.

The University has the capacity, facilities and determination to revitalize higher education in Uganda and in the region.

The University is centrally located in the heart of Kampala City and on the main public transportation routes coupled with ample parking space.

Victoria University is part of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, which has a strong presence in the education sector in Uganda and has under its portfolio, Kampala Parents School and Delhi Public School International.

Finally, since we all now agree without any iota of doubt that Victoria University (you may proudly say; Chartered University) is Uganda’s finest in the education sector, let’s all meet there or no where else!
