PICTORIAL: Over 1,800 Gets Free treatment At Ruparelia Foundation’s Kamuli Eye Camp

Thousands of eye patients from Kamuli district and neighboring districts over the weekend enjoyed free treatment during the Eye Medical camp organized by the Ruparelia Foundation as a Corporate Social Responsibility drive in the Eastern region.

The two-day event which happened from Aug 20 to 21st was held at Shree Bhavin Samala Street in Kamuli municipality where beneficiaries were offered free eye medical services, checkups, eyeglasses and cataract surgeries among others.

According to the organizers, a total of 1,810 people were screened between Saturday and Sunday, while 143 surgeries were conducted, and approximately about 1000 eyeglasses were offered throughout the camp.

Mrs. Jyostna Ruparelia a born of Kamuli district who is also wife of City Businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia in her remarks thanked the people of Kamuli and the patients for coming through in large numbers to receive free treatment.

She also thanked her hubby Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia for always supporting her whenever she organizes events like this to give back to people and the communities.

During the visit to Kamuli township primary school, Ms Jyostna Ruparelia on behalf of the foundation pledged to support the school by renovating some classroom blocks, and provision of scholastic materials, library books and some computer accessories.

Sudhir’s daughter, Ms. Sheena Ruparelia who was among the organizers of the camp noted that this is the third eye camp the Ruparelia Foundation has done but said the one in Kamuli is the first one to be conducted outside Kampala.

She commended the local leadership of Kamuli for granting them permission to conduct the medical camp and all the sponsors and partners like doctors for making it successful.

First Deputy prime minister and former Speaker of Parliament Ms. Rebecca Kadaga who was one of the high profile guests at the camp appealed to the health ministry to consider Kamuli district for more eye specialists.

Her call came after a series of reports of an overwhelming number of eye-affected cases in the district. According to the district health officer, the eye specialists are few compared to the number of patients received.

The Ruparelia Foundation Free Eye Medical Camp was sponsored by invaluable partners who included; Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Abacus Parental Drug Limited, SSDM Temple, Rwenzori Bottling Company Ltd, Euroflex Ltd (Eurofoam), Pearl Dairy Farms Ltd (Lato milk), Harris International (Riham), Rotary Clubs of Jinja and Nsangi.
