Police FC, SuperSport Launch TV Show To Promote Talent, Tourism

Big league side Police FC has launched a show on the SuperSport TV channel as one of their off-pitch strategies towards returning to the Uganda premier league.

The launch happened on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

Dubbed the “Police Football Club Show,” the club’s partnership with the pay television channel is expected to promote and market the players through regular interactions.

“That is one of our off-pitch strategies aimed at taking the club back to top-flight football,” the club revealed.

According to the organisers, the show will air on various SuperSport channels on DSTV that is ESPN and Supersport Variety 3 channel and on GOTV for a period of one year.

The move aims to foster the objectives of the club and provide a platform that will expose the club to the global market.

Ex-Cranes star Timothy Batabaire, who was one of the guests at the event mentioned that this will as well market Ugandan football and the best platform to use was SuperSport.

Police FC Chairman SCP Halango Timothy re-echoed that the purpose is not only to market football but also to put Uganda as a country on the outside market and develop talent through such a big platform.

SCP Halango further noted that this is a great opportunity to give Uganda’s Ex international football players jobs to showcase their skills and talents as couches as to train the young people that Police FC is yet to recruit.

“This will create an opportunity where we shall create avenues to engage other football clubs to partner with us and prepare players for life after football,” Batabaire said.

Timothy Kwenaite, a sports analyst at SuperSport channel said the partnership is a platform for transformation to promote football as another form of trade to sell Uganda globally in terms of sports and tourism.
“Police FC had the vision to understand that in order to market yourself in today’s business, you have to partner with television that can expose you and your brand to the wider audience” Kwenaite said during the launch.

The event was also attended by Kwenaite Thomas (Analyst, SuperSport), Julian Dube (Producer, SuperSport), Timothy Batabaire, Police CEO, RTD CP, PK Arinaitwe, Acting Force Sports Officer, SSP Nampoza Ritah, head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa among other dignitaries.

In the league, things are moving just as planned for the Cops, as they’re leading the 15-team Big League table with nine points.

Police have won all three of their opening matches. They beat Ndejje University 3-1, defeated Jinja North by a goal to nothing and also beat new entrants Young Elephants 2-1.

Brief History About Police FC

Police FC is a football club from Kampala, Uganda.

It was formed in 1965 with a mission to be a football club that upholds community values and promotes career development as a community policing tool to avert criminality in society.

They played the Uganda Cup Final in 1968 with Coffee FC.

In 1975 the club was relegated and it came back to the first Division in 1980 and gained promotion in 1994.

They won their first Ugandan league title in 2005 and the CECAFA Clubs Cup in 2006.

Police were spurred on in the early years by Dennis Obua as a player and later as a coach.

During Obua’s years, he managed to stage youthful players who have blossomed into really great talent.

When Obua became the Federation of Uganda Football Association president, he hired Steven Mulinde to step in his shoes.

Police saw tremendous growth and lately have been involved in several international ties.

From November 2019 to date, the main stadium for Police FC is the Star Times Stadium. Located in the area of Lugogo.
