URA Boss Musinguzi Urges African Countries To Work Together To Overcome Effects Of Slavery,Colonialism

The Uganda Revenue Authority commissioner general John Rujoki Musinguzi has urged African countries to work together and emancipate themselves from the effects of slavery and colonialism, which has kept them in the shadows.

According to Musinguzi African countries face similar challenges, whereby the average tax- to GDP is at 16%, whereas in developed countries it is at 30%, Uganda at 14% while Rwanda Rwanda is at 16% and is the model of East Africa.

He made these remarks at Serena Hotel in Kampala on February 05, 2024 during a meeting with Rwanda and Sierra Leone Revenue Authority delegations, where they exchanged ideas on Digital Tracking Systems (DTS).

“I believe that Revenue agencies across the continent have the power to change this trend in Revenue mobilization,” said Musinguzi.

He added that, the destiny of the continent is shared and the prosperity of Sierra Leone is the same as that of Uganda.

Alie Kadiatu the Deputy Minister of finance RRA Rwanda, applauded the URA team for its guidance on DTS.

“We are eagerly going to apply the acquired knowledge and we shall continue collobarating with URA,” said Kadiatu.

According to Emmy Mbera Rukamirwa the Assistant Commissioner of the Tax Control and Operational Support Division RRA Rwanda, their experiences with using the electronic fiscal Receipting and invoicing system (EFRIS) for the last 11 years has registered a lot of success and it is the way to go in revenue collections. explorer
