President Yoweri Museveni has named Hajat Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She will work alongside Mr. Benon Kigenyi, who has been appointed as her deputy.

Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Presidential Spokesman, confirmed the news, stating that the appointments have been forwarded to the Public Service for formal processing. “Once the necessary procedures are complete, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet will officially confirm these appointments,” he said.

The new appointees take over from Dorothy Kisaka and Eng. David Luyimbazi, who previously served in the respective roles. Their tenure ended following legal troubles tied to the collapse of the Kiteezi Landfill in August, which claimed 35 lives. Kisaka, Luyimbazi, and Dr. Daniel Okello, the former Director of Public Health, were charged with negligence in relation to the tragedy at the Kasangati Magistrates Court in October.

In the interim, Frank Rusa Nyakana had been serving as Acting Executive Director of KCCA for the past three months, ensuring continuity as the city authority awaited new leadership.

The appointments of Buzeki and Kigenyi signal a new chapter for KCCA, as the authority seeks to strengthen its management and tackle the challenges of running the capital city.

Hajat Sharifah Buzeki,  has been working as the commissioner of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of public Service.

She becomes the third woman to lead KCCA since it’s inception after Jennifer Musisi and Dorothy Kisaka.
