Igrid, 6 FDC Activists Remanded To Luzira

Forum for Democratic Change mobilisation secretary Ingrid Turinawe has been remanded to Luzira prison following her arrest on Sunday.

Ingrid was arrested at Central Police Station where she had taken food to FDC suspects accused of throwing a water bottle at magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

The Iron Lady said the six suspects were starved since Saturday by the OC ASP Baryayamba.

Opposition figure Kizza Besigye’s aide, Ronald Muhinda, said “FDC welfare leaders took food to FDC supporters detained at CPS Kampala and food was poured by Police”.

“That they will only accept food from Police canteen. These guys were arrested for wearing blue in solidarity with Stella Nyanzi. A mother of less than 1year old baby Fatuma has not breastfed her baby.”

FDC preacher and Makerere LCV councillor Nyanjura Doreen said the food from the canteen is not only expensive but it can’t be trusted as well.

Ingrid delivered food on Sunday and was detained. She was produced in court on Monday.

She was charged with “annoyance or inconvenience of public common nuisance and assault”.

The Magistrate refused to handle bail application and sent her to Luzira prison until 16th August 2019.

Earlier, six activists who are accused of throwing a water bottle that hit Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu were also remanded.

They are; Ojobile Augustine, Waiswa Abdullah, Joel Kabali, Katumba Moses, Wanyera Simon and Fatumah Abenabyo.

The group was arrested on Friday during the sentencing of former Makerere researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi and produced in court on Monday.

They were first charged with inciting violence that on 2nd August when they incited people in court against Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

Wanyera Simon, Fatuma Zaina and Ojobile were charged with malicious damage of the Gerret Walk Through Detector Machine at Buganda Road Court and contempt of court.

Counsel Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Isaac Semakadde represented the accused persons.edgeug
