The Speaker Of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has petitioned the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija to explain why the Ministry is keeping silent and taking long to appoint a new deputy Bank Of Uganda (BoU) Governor following the departure of Dr. Louis Kasekende.

Furious Kadaga has called upon Mr. Kasaija to appear before Parliament on Thursday February 20, 2019 to respond to queries in regard to why the appointing authority is still silent on appointing the new deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

Kadaga said, currently it’s only the Central Bank Governor Professor Tumusiime Mutebile taking on all the responsibilities of the governor yet he is supposed to have a deputy to support and recommend.

“I am concered about this crisis, therefore I hereby order the minister of Finance Matia Kasaijja to appear before Parliament to tell us when is the deputy governor going to be appointed,”Kadaga said.

This comes after Igara County East Member of Parliament Michael Maranga Mawanda raised an issue of National importance in Parliament tasking Government to appoint a deputy governor for the Central  bank.

“Madam speaker, I am here to raise on an issue of National importance,I am currently working on the bank of Uganda amendment bill 2019.But madam speaker as I speak now,we don’t have a governor for the bank of Uganda, the position is vacant. Can government explain to me why they are not appointing a new person?,”Mawanda said.

Former bank of Uganda deputy governor Louis Kasekende contract expired recently and President Yoweri Museveni refused to renew his contract.
Kasekende is one of the top former officials of Bank of Uganda who contributed to fraudulent sell of seven commercial banks.

The committee of Parliament Cosase investigated this fraud and tasked government to act on such officials like Kasekende,Justine Bagyenda,Ssekabira among others.
